Mothers who lost their children in a brutal airstrike by the US and Israel on a school in Minab, in Iran’s southern Hormuzgan province, have written an open letter to Melania Trump, the First Lady of the United States, questioning why the US targeted their innocent children.

The full text of their letter is as follows:

Our Children—What Was Their Crime That They Were Targeted as a Threat to the United States?
The bereaved mothers of the girls’ elementary school in Minab have written a letter addressed to Melania Trump, the wife of Donald Trump.

Mrs. Melania Trump,

We, the mothers of the students of Shajareh-Tayyebeh Girls’ Elementary School in the city of Minab, Iran, have lost more than 165 of our children—between the ages of 6 and 12—following the brutal bombing carried out by the armed forces of the United States and Israel.
Without entering into the broader questions about the reasons behind this irrational military aggression—an act carried out without any legal or international justification—our question to you, as the First Lady of the United States and as someone who, in the recent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, spoke in defense of children’s rights and this noble human value, is the following:
Did our young children—who, on the morning of February 28, 2026, had simply left their homes to go to school—commit any crime or wrongdoing that they were attacked by American and Israeli forces as a threat to the United States?
Did the teachers, school staff, and some of the parents of our young children—who have lost and continue to lose their lives in the bombings carried out in recent days by the American war machine against Iran—ever harm the interests or security of the United States such that they must now pay this terrible price?

Madam First Lady,

As you know, children in all societies, according to the rights enshrined in international law and within the framework of UNICEF, must enjoy peace and complete security in their educational environments. The unequal and unjustified war imposed on the people of Iran—amid ongoing political negotiations between Iran and the United States, with the participation of Israel and the cooperation of the United States—has inflicted irreparable material and moral damage upon our ancient nation, a country with a long history, rich culture, and civilization-building heritage.
Beyond these losses, it has also claimed the lives of many innocent children. We hope that through the good offices of the mother and First Lady of the United States—who has previously demonstrated a clear record in humanitarian affairs—efforts will be made to prevent the continuation of this tragedy and to bring it to an end.
