Exports from Iran’s Markazi Province reached more than $1.1 billion in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year, the director general of the province’s customs administration said.

Speaking to IRNA on Tuesday, Ruhollah Gholami said 1.537 million metric tons of goods worth $1.145 billion were exported from the province to 93 countries during the period.

He added that imports into the province over the same period amounted to 246,000 metric tons of goods valued at $663 million, sourced from 46 countries.

According to Gholami, the top five countries of origin for imports were the United Arab Emirates, China, Turkey, Qatar, and Iraq.

Referring to efforts to combat smuggling, Gholami said customs authorities uncovered 22 cases during the period, with a total value of around 2 trillion rials.

The cases involved items such as gasoline, kerosene, gas oil, hydrocarbons, and electric buses.

He noted that, compared with the previous period, the cases represented a 16 percent increase in number and a 112 percent rise in value, and have been referred to relevant judicial authorities for legal procedures.

Gholami also said that 850 additional cases, valued at more than 32 trillion rials, were referred to customs by other detecting bodies through the competent authority.

Markazi Province is home to more than 3,100 industrial units across various areas, of which 650 produce export goods.
