Pakistan’s PM to join farewell ceremony for martyred Leader in Tehran

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Tehran on Friday, July 3, to attend an official ceremony paying tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said at a weekly news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday that Sharif’s Friday visit is intended to express the solidarity of the Pakistani government and people with the nation and government of Iran on the occasion of the funeral procession for the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

He added that the Pakistani prime minister will take part in the official ceremony in Tehran paying tribute to martyr Ayatollah Khamenei.

Andrabi said Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Turkey for a bilateral visit following his stay in Tehran.

Turning to diplomatic efforts to end the war in the region, the Pakistani foreign ministry spokesperson also addressed the recent round of technical talks in Doha.

He said considerable progress was achieved in this round of talks, adding that Pakistan will continue its efforts under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
