Baqaei deliberated on the importance of multilateral arrangements in a post on his X account on Friday, saying, “We are in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, to participate in the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States.”
Emphasizing that Iran attaches great importance to the SCO and similar multilateral mechanisms, he pointed to the vitality of genuine multilateralism in an era when aggressive unilateralism, breach of inter-state agreements and unlawful use of force are seriously undermining the foundational principles of the rule of law and the UN Charter-based legal order, a reference to the US–Israeli military adventurism, in defiance of international law.
Baqaei is accompanying Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has travelled to Kyrgyzstan to attend the SCO meeting, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of the founding of the grouping. The event dubbed “25 Years of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity” opened on Friday.
