Zarif wrote on his X: “Upon the suggestion of many of my academic colleagues, the textbook titled Iranian Diplomacy in a Post-Polar World includes studies, scientific research, and more than 50 years of experience in diplomacy. It has been edited and published by the Mizan Legal Foundation through the efforts of Dr. Abbas Shiri.
A section of the book reads that diplomacy is one of the fundamental pillars of national strength. In a world where power is not defined only on the battlefield, dialogue, vision, trust-building, reducing tension, and managing disagreements constitute part of the mechanism of strength.
A country that only sees the importance of diplomacy out of desperation or as a tool to repel danger has, in fact, ignored one of its key pillars of capability. The prerequisite for exploiting all of the pillars of national strength is to realistically know oneself and the environment that surrounds us. No country can design an effective strategy by relying only on its understanding of its ideal image in the world or based on its mental wishes and tendencies. Foreign policy is the realm where reality prevails over dream-making and the ground that connects vision to possibility.
The more the distance between these two widens, the heavier the costs of decision-making become. Self-belief and awareness, based on conviction regarding assets, along with identifying shortcomings and internal and external challenges, are prerequisites for avoiding the trap of extremism.
The book Iranian Diplomacy in a Post-Polar World has been authored in six chapters and spans 334 pages, including a theoretical model of foreign policy, the post-war world, ways and types of diplomacy, foreign policy actors, neighbors, the Global South, and Iran and the great powers.
