AVASH NEWS: Reacting to remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding the issue of compensation, Iran’s Embassy in Tunis said that “US policies, measures, and actions against Iran over the past century have directly or indirectly claimed the lives of hundreds of Iranians.”
The embassy referred to a number of acts and policies it considers hostile or criminal, including the following:
• US occupation and military presence in Iran from 1942 to 1945
• The August 19 coup in 1953, which led to the overthrow of Iran’s elected government, with US involvement.
• Political, security, and military support for the Shah’s regime from 1953 to 1979.
• The freezing of Iranian assets and the beginning of US sanctions against Iran in 1979.
• The severing of diplomatic relations between the United States and Iran in 1980.
• The US military operation in Iran in 1980, known as the failed Tabas operation.
• US support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War from 1980 to 1988.
• The downing of Iran Air Flight 655 in 1988, which resulted in the deaths of all 290 people on board.
• The imposition of comprehensive economic and trade sanctions targeting Iran’s oil sector in 2012.
• The US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear agreement and the reimposition of sanctions in 2018.
• The implementation of the “maximum pressure” policy against Iran from 2018 to 2020.
• The assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad in 2020.
• The expansion of economic and oil-related pressure on Iran from 2025 to 2026.
• The intensification of political and military pressure, including military attacks against Iran, from 2025 to 2026.
• The assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader in 2026.
• The attack on an elementary school in Minab, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of students and others.
The Iranian Embassy has raised the question of who should pay compensation in light of these actions: Iran, which has consistently defended its rights, or the United States, which Iran accuses of repeatedly inflicting damage on the country?
