Iran ready to upgrade ties with Vietnam: President Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed Iran’s readiness to upgrade relations with Vietnam, emphasizing expanded bilateral cooperation and support for multilateralism.

In a message congratulating Vietnam’s newly elected president, To Lam, Pezeshkian said he was “pleased that the friendly relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam… are on the right path.”

He described both countries as independent states with principled positions and foreign policies based on international law, mutual respect, and responsibility in multilateral affairs.

Highlighting existing capacities, Pezeshkian noted that bilateral ties “have significant potential for deepening and expansion in line with the interests of the two nations.”

He added, “Therefore, I would like to declare the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to upgrade the level of bilateral relations and mutual cooperation in support of multilateralism.”

On April 7, 2026, Vietnam’s National Assembly unanimously elected Communist Party General Secretary Lam as the state president for the 2026–2031 term.
