Yermekbayev is on an official visit to the Iranian capital to pay tribute to the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei who was assassinated in an airstrike on his office on February 28, the first day of the US-Israeli war of aggression on Iran.
During a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the secretary-general reaffirmed the SCO member states’ principled and shared commitment to upholding national sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, as well as to the principles of non-interference in the internal affairs of states and the non-use of force, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.
For his part, Araghchi expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown by SCO member states with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He stressed the collective responsibility of all nations to uphold the rule of law, counter unilateralism, and hold international criminals accountable, particularly those responsible for crimes committed against the Iranian people during the two US-Israeli wars against Iran.
The two officials also exchanged views on ongoing cooperation between Iran and the SCO. Yermekbayev extended an official invitation to the Iranian foreign minister to participate in the organization’s upcoming meeting of foreign ministers.
