Eleven member states of the IAEA Board of Governors issued a joint statement condemning Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

According to the Persian edition of ISNA, during an extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors — held on Monday at Russia’s formal request following a letter from Iran’s Foreign Minister to the IAEA Director General — a joint statement was delivered condemning Israeli aggression against Iran’s nuclear facilities and expressing support for Iran’s position.

The statement was issued by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Iraq, the Republic of Belarus, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Cuba, the Republic of Indonesia, the Republic of Nicaragua, and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Full Text of the Statement:

“We condemn the Israeli regime’s aggression against Iran, including military attacks on nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards, which constitute a flagrant violation of international law, the Charter of the United Nations, and the Statute of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

We strongly believe that such military attacks not only threaten international peace and security but also undermine confidence in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), represent a blatant disregard for the IAEA safeguards system, and jeopardize the further development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

We recall the resolutions of the IAEA General Conference, which have emphasized that ‘any armed attack or threat of attack against nuclear facilities devoted to peaceful purposes is a violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the IAEA Statute.’

We note that Iran is a non-nuclear-weapon State Party to the NPT and that the targeted nuclear facilities in Iran are covered by a Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement with the IAEA. We recall Iran’s longstanding and firm commitment to nuclear non-proliferation.

We express our deep concern over the far-reaching consequences of such a military attack on safeguarded nuclear facilities in a Member State.

We call on Israel to cease its military aggression against Iran. We urge the IAEA Board of Governors, the Secretariat, and the Director General to take the necessary measures to prevent further Israeli attacks on nuclear sites and facilities under IAEA safeguards.

We request the Director General to promptly report to the Board of Governors on all consequences of the Israeli attacks on safeguarded nuclear sites and facilities in Iran, and to inform the United Nations Security Council of any further acts or threats of aggression against Iran’s safeguarded nuclear facilities.”
