On Friday, the French Foreign Ministry announced that senior European diplomats told their Iranian counterpart, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on Thursday that they are determined to reinstate UN sanctions on Tehran if no progress is made on Iran’s nuclear deal by the end of summer.

The French Foreign Ministry stated on Friday that senior European diplomats informed Seyed Abbas Araghchi, their Iranian counterpart, on Thursday that they are resolved to restore UN sanctions against Tehran if there is no progress on Iran’s nuclear agreement by the end of summer.

Reuters also reported that the foreign ministers of France, the UK, Germany, and the EU’s foreign policy chief told their Iranian counterpart that Iran must immediately resume diplomatic efforts to achieve a “verifiable and sustainable” nuclear deal. A French diplomatic source confirmed this development on Thursday.

These ministers further reiterated their determination to employ the “snapback” mechanism—allowing the reinstatement of all international sanctions against Iran—if tangible progress toward such an agreement is not achieved by the end of summer.
