Top security chief: Iran to ink security agreement with Iraq soon
Larijani said on Monday, before embarking on a regional tour to Iraq and Lebanon, that Iran’s security is dependent on the security of its neighbors.
The official said that his upcoming visit consists of two parts, with the first leg taking place in Iraq—a friendly neighboring country with which Iran maintains close trade relations.
Larijani expressed appreciation for the cooperation between the two nations, particularly during the Arbaeen pilgrimage, and thanked the Iraqi government in advance for its significant support in facilitating services for pilgrims.
He noted that an important security agreement has been drafted with Iraq, emphasizing that Iran’s approach to its relationships with neighbors prioritizes the security of the Iranian people while also considering the security of neighboring nations.
As to Lebanon, he termed the Arab country as a significant and influential state in West Asia that shares civilizational ties with Iran and has extensive cooperation on regional issues.
In Lebanon, discussions will be held with officials and influential figures regarding the ongoing development, national unity, Lebanon’s independence, enhanced trade relations, and security developments, he said.
Like Iran, Lebanon has a history of conflict with the Zionist regime, and the consultations could help foster stability in the region, Larijani noted.
Iran top security official meets Iraqi parl. speaker
Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani met and held talk with Iraq’s parliament Mahmoud al-Mashhadani in Baghdad on Monday.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged their views on bilateral ties and issues of the mutual interest.
Earlier on Monday, Iran’s top security official met and held talks with Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani and President Abdul Latif Rashid.
In a meeting with secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in Baghdad on Monday, premier Sudani highlighted Iraq’s efforts to expand relations with Iran.
He also stressed the need to strengthen fruitful partnership in different fields that are in the interests of the people of Iraq and Iran.
The prime minister further emphasized Iraq’s principled policy of condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Iran and whatever escalates regional or international clashes.
