Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said that 87% of the trade between Iran and Russia has been exempted from tariffs.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Jalali said Khorasan Province can play a very effective role in maintaining relations with neighbors and also with Russia.

The North-South corridor has three branches the western branch through Azerbaijan, the central branch through the Caspian Sea, and the eastern branch through Turkmenistan, he added.

The eastern route passes through Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Iran, adding that Iran’s eastern and northeastern provinces play a significant role in this route, he noted.

While the trade volume between the two countries was 650 million dollars in 2023, this figure increased to 1.8 billion dollars last year, Jalali said. He also noted that the trade would reach three billion dollars by the end of 2025.

The diplomat referred to the free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian countries, including Russia, and said that the agreement was approved and implemented in the past, and provinces with high economic capacity can increase their exports to Russia within the framework of this agreement.
