Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, had held his first official meeting in Islamabad with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who underscored the importance of “brotherly” relations between the two neighbors.

Dar welcomed Larijani and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday upon arrival for the meeting at the Pakistani Foreign Ministry. The session marked the start of Larijani’s first working day in Pakistan.

In his opening remarks, the Pakistani foreign minister congratulated Larijani on his appointment as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, while highlighting the significance of Iran-Pakistan ties.

He also referred to his recent meetings with Iran’s foreign minister and other senior Iranian officials, reiterating Islamabad’s emphasis on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

Larijani is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s parliament speaker, prime minister, and president later on Tuesday as part of his diplomatic itinerary.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Islamabad on Monday night, he underlined Pakistan’s key role in the region, stating that cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad across various fields “helps calm and peace in the region.”

His consultations with senior Pakistani officials will focus on reviewing the latest developments in bilateral relations, following up on joint agreements, regional and international issues, and matters of significance to the Islamic world, according to Iranian officials.
