Iran’s Foreign Ministry emphasized the necessity of holding the planners and agents of the invasion of Venezuela accountable, in reaction to the U.S. military action in Venezuela.

Avash News: Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced on Saturday, following a U.S. military attack on Venezuela, that it strongly condemns “the U.S. military attack on Venezuela and the blatant violation of the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

The statement reads that the U.S. military attack on Venezuela is a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the basic rules of international law, particularly Article 4(2) of the Charter regarding the prohibition of the use of force, and is a complete example of an “act of aggression” that must be condemned immediately by the United Nations and all governments concerned with the rule of law, peace, and international security.

Iran emphasized that “the U.S. military invasion against an independent country and a member of the United Nations is a blatant violation of regional and international peace and security, the consequences of which will affect the entire international system and will further expose the UN-based system to erosion and destruction.”

The statement concludes that “the Islamic Republic of Iran, while recalling the inherent right of Venezuela to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its right to determine its own destiny, points to the legal and ethical responsibility of all governments and international organizations — particularly the United Nations and the Security Council — to immediately halt the U.S.’s illegal invasion of Venezuela, and emphasizes the necessity of taking effective measures to ensure that the planners and agents of these crimes are held accountable.”
