On the sixth day of the farewell and funeral procession for the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the bodies of the leader and his family members reached Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province, where they were warmly received by the people.

AVASH NEWS: The week-long funeral procession of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution, and his family members, who were martyred in a joint Israeli-US airstrike on their residence in Tehran on February 28, 2026, is nearing its end as their bodies reached Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan Province, on Thursday.
The funeral ceremonies began last Friday. On the first day, leaders from several foreign countries attended to pay tribute to Ayatollah Khamenei, who was a popular leader among Shia Muslims, particularly in Iraq and Lebanon.
It is estimated that millions of people flooded the streets of Tehran on Monday in a procession that stretched from eastern Tehran to western Tehran. The bodies were then transferred to Qom, to the holy shrine of Hazrat Masumeh (PBUH), where prayers were once again offered over them by millions of mourners and devotees.
The bodies were then transferred to Najaf, Iraq, and subsequently to Karbala. Millions of Iraqi citizens accompanied the bodies of the leader and his family members, making it one of the largest and most magnificent funeral processions in history.
On the sixth day, the bodies arrived in Mashhad. Mashhad is the final destination, where they will be laid to rest adjacent to the shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam, one of the holiest sites for Iranians, who is also known as the King of Khorasan.
While the funeral procession is underway in Mashhad, the United States has begun bombing Iranian cities in the country’s north and south since Wednesday, in what has been interpreted as a violation of the ceasefire, which was supposed to remain in effect for 60 days.
