Avash News- Iran’s educational infrastructure has expanded with more than 2,300 new school units, including 13,000 classrooms, ahead of the new academic year.
The new academic year officially began in the early hours of September 23, with Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref ringing the school bell.
Aref said the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei, has emphasized the need to foster love and affection for the homeland among students.
He said: “If we have stood firmly against the United States and forced its naval fleets to flee, it is thanks to the wisdom and knowledge acquired by the children of this homeland, who have learned to build missiles and drones and stand up to any superpower, including the United States, to defend Iran’s territorial integrity.”
The memory of the children who were killed, including students from Minab and Lamerd, in the joint US-Israeli attacks on civilian areas was also commemorated as the new academic year began.
On March 9, 2026 more than 160 civilians, most of them schoolchildren were killed in an airstrike by the United States.
A United Nations-mandated fact-finding mission has concluded that the United States may have committed war crimes when it carried out two strikes on Iran in February 2026 – one on a primary school in Minab, the other on a sports complex in Lamerd.
The Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on the Islamic Republic of Iran submitted its findings to the UN Human Rights Council after months of investigation into the February strikes, when the US and Israel began the war on Iran amid stalled nuclear negotiations. It concluded that there were reasonable grounds to believe the US acted “recklessly” in the strikes.
