The interior ministers of Iran and Tajikistan called for leveraging the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to expand bilateral relations, exchange expertise, and strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation.

Eskandar Momeni met with Tajikistan Minister of Internal Affairs, Ramazon Rahimzoda, on Friday on the sidelines of the SCO summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. During the meeting, Momeni expressed his gratitude for the positive and supportive stance of the Tajik government and nation during the recent war imposed on Iran.

“There is immense potential to upgrade our interactions, and we hope the engagements will strengthen economic, political, security, scientific, and law enforcement cooperation,” the Iranian Interior Minister said. He also expressed hope that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon would visit Iran at the earliest opportunity.

For his part, the Tajik Minister of Internal Affairs praised the resilience of the Iranian people during the recent conflict. “The entire world witnessed Iran’s resilience against superpowers, which demonstrates your technological advancement and the wisdom of your leadership. Learning from Iran’s experiences is highly important to us,” Rahimzoda said.

Both ministers reaffirmed commitment to utilizing the framework of the SCO to develop ties, share administrative expertise, and cooperate in the fight against terrorism.
