The Iranian squad has had a busy day on Tuesday — the third day of karate competitions at the 20th Asian Games — with three representatives in kumite, as well as the women’s team kata, reaching the finals.
The team kata — consisting of Fatemeh Sadeghi, Sepideh Amini and Zeinab Al-Sadat Hosseini — secured a decisive victory over Thailand in the opening round and subsequently defeated the Philippines to advance to the final stage.
Iran faced Vietnam in the final match, but the Southeast Asian team performed better comparatively and secured good points to win the gold medal.
It is worth mentioning that the same Iranian team had defeated Vietnam in the final of the Asian Championships just three months before.
