Mohammad-Mehdi Alavian-Mehr announced the figure on Sunday, saying that, as in previous years, three US institutions, namely Harvard University, Stanford University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), ranked first, second and third respectively in the 2026 edition of the ranking.
He described the Shanghai Ranking as one of the world’s most prestigious university rankings, whose results are published annually by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The ISC chief said Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the University of Tehran jointly took the top spot among Iranian universities, both ranking in the 501–600 bracket.
Amirkabir University of Technology ranked third among Iranian universities, placing in the 801–900 bracket, he noted, adding that Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology and Tarbiat Modares University were also included in the ranking, each placing in the 901–1,000 bracket.
