Tehran Condemns Trump’s Threats Targeting Iran’s Civilian Infrastructure

AVASH NEWS: In a post published on X on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei accused the US administration of promoting actions that would amount to war crimes. He argued that invoking superior orders cannot shield individuals from responsibility for violations of international law, adding that Washington is prepared to undermine the principles of international humanitarian law and basic human ethics in pursuit of war.
Baghaei stressed that any policy advocating strikes on civilian facilities such as bridges and power plants is both unlawful and criminal. According to him, such actions would constitute reprisals and collective punishment, practices explicitly prohibited under international humanitarian law as well as US legislation, including the War Crimes Act (18 U.S.C. § 2441).
The Iranian spokesperson further emphasized that war crimes are not subject to any statute of limitations. He also noted that the US Uniform Code of Military Justice and the Department of Defense’s Law of War Manual require military personnel to reject manifestly unlawful orders. Baghaei concluded by reaffirming that Iran remains steadfast in opposing what he described as lawlessness and violations of international law.
