Avash News: In the wee hours of Sunday, a massive crowd attended Tehran's Mosalla Ground to pray over the body of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The funeral and farewell ceremony of Ayatollah Khamenei, the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, which had begun on Friday with the participation of foreign leaders from across the world, continued on Sunday.
Weeping people mourning the loss of the Supreme Leader attended in large numbers on Sunday at Imam Khomeini (Tehran) Mosalla Ground to pray over the bodies of Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members, including his 14-year-old grandchild, who lost their lives in a joint airstrike by the US and Israel on March 28, 2026.
War conditions, daily bombing of civilian areas, and threats by the aggressors to kill Iranian authorities in public places, as well as assassinations, did not allow the organization of a funeral procession sooner.
Following Iran-US negotiations to end the war, Iranian authorities decided to hold the funeral ceremony for Ayatollah Khamenei and his family members.
Threats are still felt, but almost all senior officials, including military commanders, were present at the funeral ceremony of the leader.
The funeral ceremony has turned out to be Iran’s greatest funeral ceremony in history, as it is expected that more than 20 million people will take part in the week-long ceremony, which is scheduled to be held in several cities.
The destination where the body of the leader will be laid to rest is the holy city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi Province, adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.
Before that, the body of the martyred leader will be taken to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala upon the request of the Iraqi authorities.
More than 500 journalists from different media outlets across the world are covering the event, which has grabbed the attention of people worldwide.
Donald Trump, the president of the United States, has expressed his surprise at seeing large crowds of people breaking into tears over the loss of the leader of the Islamic Revolution.
While negotiations are underway, many people are asking for revenge for the blood of the leader.
For now, the world’s eyes are on the massive funeral ceremony of the Supreme Leader, Seyed Ali Khamenei.
