Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran remains firm and serious in both defending itself and pursuing diplomacy, warning that the country will respond more forcefully than before if it faces renewed military action.

“If enemies, once again, choose the path of military confrontation, they will be met with a stronger response than before,” Araghchi said on Sunday, adding that Iran at the same time “remains ready for a just and dignified solution through diplomacy.”

The foreign minister made the remarks while addressing foreign ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions in Tehran.

Regarding the Iranian delegation’s visit to New York during the 81st UN General Assembly, Araghchi said he met with 42 foreign ministers, while Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held meetings with around 10 heads of state, praising those responsible for coordinating the schedule.

The minister described Iran’s presence in New York this year as strong and effective. He said the delegation held numerous meetings and interviews, while the president addressed the UNGA and he delivered speeches at related sessions and held meetings with political figures.

Araghchi said New York’s political atmosphere was influenced by Iran’s proposal and presence, demonstrating that Tehran remained serious about diplomacy and finding a peaceful solution.

He said the notion that Iran could be isolated had failed, with Tehran demonstrating that it could offer solutions for both war and peace.

Araghchi addressed US claims that the Iranian delegation had been expelled from the country. He said the delegation traveled to and returned from New York according to its predetermined schedule, calling the claim strange and questioning Washington’s conduct as the United Nations host.

Araghchi said Iranian diplomats conveyed the Iranian people’s message of peace and rational, peaceful solutions, while clearly explaining Tehran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and their connection to US commitments.

Araghchi said meetings with neighboring countries, particularly Persian Gulf states, had been effective, respectful, and friendly. He said Iran pursued the path toward building trust with neighboring countries, while regional states shared a determination to promote peace, stability, and security.

He said his meetings with European countries had also been extensive and frank. He expressed hope that European governments would reconsider their approach toward Iran, citing the NATO secretary general’s admission that European countries had participated in the US war against Iran.

Araghchi said Iran hoped the United States would choose reason and rationality. He said neither military action nor additional sanctions could provide a solution.
