Iran’s cadet Greco-Roman wrestling team clinched the Asian title before the end of the tournament.
The competitions in the final three weight classes of the Asian Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships have been underway since this morning in Da Nang, Vietnam.
In the 65 kg category, Hamed Dehghanzadeh defeated Yuki Yeda of Japan 8-0 in the opening round. He then overcame Gyeon Hyeon Nam of South Korea 7-1 to advance to the semifinals. Dehghanzadeh lost 10-4 in that stage to Miras Makhambet of Kazakhstan and moved to the bronze-medal match, where he will face Yongki Chiu of China.
In the 71 kg category, Esmaeil Zaherdoust defeated Hiroto Kadohira of Japan 10-0 in the first round. He then secured an 11-2 victory over Kudirjan Fazilov of Uzbekistan to advance to the semifinals. Zaherdoust went on to defeat Timur Kosainov of Kazakhstan 8-0 and book his place in the final, where he will face Bail Nuraliev of Kyrgyzstan.
In the 80 kg category, Mehdi Gholamian edged Yujian Cheng of China 5-4 in the opening round, but moved into the repechage bracket after his opponent advanced to the final. In repechage, he defeated Mohammad Zayniddinzod of Tajikistan 6-2 to reach the bronze-medal match. Gholamian will face Alinur Toliugali of Kazakhstan.
Following the six gold medals won yesterday, along with the advancement of Iran’s three remaining representatives to the final and bronze-medal matches today and the points earned through those results, Team Iran secured the championship title ahead of schedule.
Haul of Six Gold Medals
The competitions in seven weight classes at the Asian Cadet Greco-Roman Wrestling Championships were held Thursday in Da Nang, Vietnam, with Team Iran capturing six gold medals. Armin Esmaeili (45 kg), Ali Esmaeili (48 kg), Vahid Ashiri (55 kg), Amirreza Tahmasbpour (60 kg), Amirreza Mehri (92 kg), and Ali-Akbar Aku (110 kg) all claimed gold medals for Iran.
The results of Iran’s representatives are as follows:
In the 45 kg category, Armin Esmaeili defeated Ali Almas of Kazakhstan 7-5 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals. He then beat Sachin Shirole of India 6-4 to reach the final. In the gold-medal bout, Esmaeili defeated Taherjan Karimov of Uzbekistan 8-2 to secure the title.
In the 48 kg category, Ali Esmaeili received a first-round bye before defeating Liatan An of China 9-0 in the second round to advance to the semifinals. He then overpowered Omarali Berdaliev of Kyrgyzstan 9-0 to book his place in the final. Iran’s representative defeated Javohir Sharifboev of Uzbekistan 4-1 in the final to win gold.
In the 51 kg category, Ahmad Badraldini received a first-round bye before defeating Taku Shiba of Japan 11-0 in the second round to reach the semifinals. He then lost 12-3 to Kanishbek Zhangazhol of Kazakhstan and advanced to the bronze-medal match. Badraldini was defeated 7-5 by technical fall against Bunyod Hasanov of Uzbekistan in that bout and finished in fifth place.
In the 55 kg category, Vahid Ashiri defeated Hariom of India 6-1 in the first round. He then beat Adam Abofarah of Jordan 5-2 to advance to the semifinals. Ashiri went on to defeat Xiao Zhang of China 11-1 and reach the final. In the championship match, he overcame Saimik Askarov of Kyrgyzstan 3-1 to claim the gold medal.
In the 60 kg category, Amirreza Tahmasbpour defeated Wenshu Fan of China 9-0 in the opening round. He then earned an 8-0 victory over Chiraphat Khunrot of Thailand to advance to the semifinals. Tahmasebpour defeated Sadriddin Tolkinboev of Uzbekistan 7-0 by technical fall to book his place in the final. He then defeated Bail Jamaladdinov of Kyrgyzstan 9-0 to secure the gold medal.
In the 92 kg category, Amirreza Mehri received a first-round bye before defeating Hanamant Kampanavar of India 4-0 by technical fall in the second round to advance to the semifinals. He then defeated Hasan Gasanov of Kyrgyzstan 7-3 to move into the final. Mehri went on to beat Jang Yeon Na of South Korea 3-1 in the final to claim the gold medal.
In the 110 kg category, Ali-Akbar Aku defeated Shokhjakhon Ilkhamov of Uzbekistan 1-1 on criteria in the opening round to advance to the semifinals. He then beat Rudra Nimhan of India 10-1 to reach the final. In the gold-medal match, Aku defeated Aristan Temirgali of Kazakhstan 8-1 to secure the title.
The competitions in the final three weight classes will be held Friday, with the draw for Iran’s representatives as follows:
In the 65 kg category, featuring 11 wrestlers, Hamed Dehghanzadeh will face Yuki Yeda of Japan in the opening round.
In the 71 kg category, also featuring 11 wrestlers, Esmaeil Zaherdoust will take on Hiroto Kadohira of Japan in the opening round.
In the 80 kg category, with 10 competitors, Mehdi Gholamian will face Yujian Cheng of China in the opening round.
