Speaking during a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in India on Saturday, Pezeshkian said that Iran is committed to strengthening ties with neighboring and Muslim countries. He said Iran has no problems with its Muslim neighbors, arguing that the United States seeks to create divisions among friendly nations.
Pezeshkian said regional instability has its roots in US and European policies and Israeli crimes, saying independent countries should be allowed to determine their own future.
Iran rejects regional hegemony
Pezeshkian stressed the need for solidarity among Muslim countries, saying the region does not need a foreign police force. He argued that territorial integrity and regional security can only be achieved by countries in the region.
He also referred to the recent conflict, saying Iran was attacked without justification, and its Leader, commanders, scientists, and children were killed. He said the Islamic Republic had no option but to defend itself, including by targeting military bases in neighboring countries used in attacks against Iran.
Iran will defend its rights
The president referred to internal unrest before the 40-day war, saying enemies armed some elements inside Iran and fomented unrest, with innocent people caught up in tragic events. He said adversaries expected Iran to surrender within days, stressing that the country would never surrender and would continue defending its national rights.
Malaysia backs Iran
For his part, Ibrahim condemned US and Israeli attacks on Iran, saying Malaysia had opposed the aggression from the beginning. He said Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty were highly respected by Malaysia and praised Iranian resilience.
The prime minister expressed support for stronger Iran–Malaysia relations, saying both sides would explore opportunities in trade, economics, education and other sectors.
