A campaign to recite the Book of Kings (Shahnameh), written by the legendary Iranian poet Hakim Abolghassem Ferdowsi, will be held in libraries across Iran on the occasion of the Day to Safeguard the Persian Language and the Celebration of Ferdowsi.

Avash News: The Organization of Iran’s Libraries will hold a campaign titled “If Iran Does Not Exist, I Do Not Wish to Live”, aiming to recite the Shahnameh in public libraries nationwide. Members of Iran’s public libraries will perform naqali—a traditional Iranian method of reciting epic stories, especially the Shahnameh—by narrating Ferdowsi’s stories. Participants are then invited to submit their recorded videos to the channels of the public libraries in their respective provinces.

Those interested in taking part in the campaign can send their recorded videos, along with their personal information, from May 9 to May 15 to the “Bale Channel” of their provincial public library. The submitted videos will be evaluated and later published on the official channels of the public libraries.

May 15 is the Day of Ferdowsi in Iran, dedicated to celebrating the author of Iran’s national epic, the Shahnameh, which has played a vital role in reviving the Persian language and Iranian identity. On this day, Ferdowsi’s efforts to preserve and rejuvenate the Persian language are honored.
