Araghchi and Wadephul held talks on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The top Iranian diplomat outlined Tehran’s positions on international developments, stressing that restoring confidence in the United Nations requires all countries to adhere to the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and international law.
Araghchi also pointed to the ongoing occupation and warmongering by the Israeli regime in West Asia, describing the arms and political support provided by Germany and some other European countries as a significant factor in the continuation of the regime’s crimes against countries in the region. He emphasized the importance of ending this complicity in these crimes, putting an end to impunity, and holding the occupying regime accountable.
Additionally, he underscored Iran’s commitment to pursuing diplomacy regarding its peaceful nuclear program, stressing that no party can ignore Iran’s good faith in the negotiations, as well as the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran in the midst of the talks, while portraying Iran as responsible for insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz.
Araghchi stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran has conveyed to the American side its reasonable conditions and requirements for advancing diplomacy, emphasizing that restoring security to the region requires an end to US interventionist and aggressive actions against Iran.
The two sides also discussed issues of mutual ties as well as the two countries’ diplomatic and consular consultations.
